Doolin Flower Paintings
These paintings are part of an ongoing West of Ireland Transcendental Series and were inspired by a short walk my wife and I made through the fields of Cahermaccrusheen and Cahermacclancy in April. This is zen psychogeography, a nature-rooted stance influenced by the poetry of Patrick Kavanagh, William Blake and Spike Milligan and the great Zen poets such as Basho.
Summer grasses:
all that remains of great soldiers’
imperial dreams.
(Basho)
There are holes in the sky where the rain gets in,
but they're ever so small that's why rain is thin
(Milligan)
The text in the paintings is word for word the notes that I made after the walk, recording my state of mind, the weather and my inability to remember the names of wildflowers.
